Learning disability

Learning disabilities, difficulties and disorders are often conflated; in fact, in the UK at least, ‘learning disability’ means something quite specific and encompasses three core components:

• Lower intellectual ability (usually an IQ of less than 70).

• Significant impairment of social or adaptive functioning.

• Onset in childhood.
